FAQ (FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS)

Q: What does a general lesson look like?

A: We’ll start out with some warm-ups and then dive into the piece of music we’re working on that week! I’ll also be able to answer any questions that you have regarding singing, gigs, life, and The Office trivia, to name a few.

Q: How long do lessons last?

A: Generally, the most popular are 30 minutes or 60 minute lessons! However, I can accommodate 45 minute or even 90 minute lessons. It all depends on what you think is best for you!

Q: What advantage does a longer lesson give me?

A: I find that for more advanced students, having that extra time is crucial. When we work on a tune, we’ll really dive deep into everything from vocal placement to interpretation of the text, vowel production, dynamics, navigating your registers (chest voice, falsetto, passagio), and various other techniques to achieve the sound you desire, while keeping ALL vocal production healthy and sustainable.

Q: The question above makes it sound like you want me to be a classical singer. But, what if I don’t want to be a classical singer?

A: Just because you are using these traditional techniques does not mean that you will sound like a classical singer. In fact, classical singing is the root of all healthy singing. So, we will harness the ability to use these techniques and format it to fit your style and the genre you want to model after!

Q: How will the lessons work? Don’t these online programs like Skype have a delay that would make accompanying a student impossible?

A: I will record an accompaniment for you (or use an existing one) and send it to you prior to our lesson, along with sheet music/lyrics. I will also send you some of the best recordings of the tune you like for reference when practicing/learning the tune on your own!
